The gentle wisdom of Scott Cunningham is surely missed in the occult community, his knowledge
was intuitve and deep. So it is with this work. The term 'encyclopedia' is an apt description of
this book for it gives us detailed information on the magical properties of gems and metals.
The introductory chapters lead us through the powers of stones, magic, stone energies, the
colors of stones and their significance, the significance of their shapes and sizes, to how to
obtain stones, ritual cleansing, their use in divination as well as the stones use in magical
jewelery and spell casting.
Part two takes us into the magic and lore of stones, with a comprhensive listing of each major stone's
folk name, energy, planet, element, powers and magical uses. Cunningham gives the same attributes
to the metals that are considered major for use in magick.
As with all of Scott Cunningham's books, this one is well thought out and layed out so that even
the novice will quickly be able to find the information they need. The writing and descriptions are
consise and to the point. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a complete guide to the
magical properties and lore of stones and metals. I give this work an excellent rating.
